7th Annual National Youth Baseball Championships
Moves to New York
Baseball Youth becomes media partner
Tournament will air live on CBS Sports Network and MLB.com and move to Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, Long Island
New York - In just six years the National Youth Baseball Championships (NYBC) has become the tournament that matches the best 12 and under travel ball teams in the country, with the winner recognized as the true national champion.
New Media Sports LLC (NMS), the owner of the event, announced today that it has entered into a long-term agreement with Dugout Media, publishers of Baseball Youth, The Nation’s Baseball Magazine for Kids, to promote the event.
Dugout Media will manage the event at Baseball Heaven Long Island’s state-of-the-art turf baseball facility in Yaphank, N.Y., from August 1-11, 2014. The tournament had been held in Memphis in each of the past six years.
Baseball Youth is known nationally as the pioneer of travel baseball media coverage with its bi-monthly publication, growing web platform (baseballyouth.com), and large social media presence boasting over 200,000 fans. The NYBC will be heavily marketed on all media platforms, as well as Baseball Youth’s mobile marketing tours that travel across the nation interacting with over 1.5 million individuals during the summer.
CBS Sports Network will telecast 12 games live during the NYBC event, and MLB.com will simultaneously stream them on its website.
In addition, the second annual NYBC All-Star Game will also be played at Baseball Heaven, and Baseball Youth will work together with NMS to select the best players in the country to play in this event. The format will be expanded to include teams representing the East, Central, West and International regions.
“We are very excited about partnering with Dugout Media,” said Alan Lubell, CEO of NMS. “Their knowledge of travel baseball and expertise in the youth sports market will insure that we get the best teams and the best All-Stars to come to Baseball Heaven in August.”
“We have been fortunate to work with New Media Sports and cover the NYBC since its beginning back in 2008, and we are thrilled to have an expanded role in helping take the event to the next level,” Scott Hacker, president of Dugout Media, said. “We’re going to put on a show not only for the New York City area, but the entire nation as they see the incredible talents these elite 12u players and teams possess.”
“The NYBC has established itself as the top youth baseball event of the year,” said Frank Zitaglio, general manager at Baseball Heaven. “We are excited about partnering with Dugout Media and NMS to host the NYBC at Baseball Heaven this year.“
In order to garner the best 12u teams in the country, New Media Sports, Baseball Youth and several veteran youth baseball coaches will use the bi-weekly Baseball Youth Elite 25 team rankings and the results of some of the most prestigious tournaments around the country to assemble the field. The final two teams will advance from the NYBC First Round, which will precede the NYBC.
“By following the progress of these travel teams from week to week as they enter many tournaments we will be able to isolate the ones that are most deserving to play for the National Championship,” said Scott Hacker.
Eddie Einhorn, Vice Chairman of the Chicago White Sox, created this event to give kids that play Major League rules in elite level tournaments an opportunity to play for a National Championship on national television. The first six tournaments were held at Gameday Baseball’s First Tennessee Fields in Memphis, Tenn.
The NYBC was founded on the belief that all teams should have the opportunity to play for this National Championship. Therefore, beginning April 1, 2014, when teams all over the United States are competing, the selection process will begin. Teams winning tournaments that the NYBC selection committee classifies as having strong fields will be among the 14 teams invited to participate in the NYBC 16-team event that begins on Friday, August 8.
The remaining two spots will be filled from the top two teams in the NYBC First Round, which will be played on the preceding weekend, August 1-3. The First Round field will be composed of teams with lower rankings but invited by the selection committee to compete for the two remaining spots.
The Junior NYBC featuring 11u travel teams will also be contested at Baseball Heaven and the Championship Game will be on national television. Like the NYBC, top teams from around the country will receive invitations based on Baseball Youth’s Elite 25 rankings to create a truly elite event.
